McMaster Dance Marathon
In 2015, in collaboration with the Children's Miracle Network, Smiling Over Sickness hosted the very first McMaster Dance Marathon event! Over the years, this event has become an annual initiative and one of SOS’s largest events! Each year, our Dance Marathon subcommittee plans this event which features performances from talented McMaster student groups such as Mac Dance and Vie Division, guest speakers from McMaster Children's Hospital, raffle prizes, dance lessons, and more!
Children’s Miracle Network is an international, non-profit organization that raises funds for 170 children’s hospitals, 14 of which are in Canada. Children's Miracle Network's fundraising initiatives include Dance Marathon, a vast student-led movement involving college and high school students at more than 400 schools across the United States and Canada. All proceeds go towards a partnering pediatric hospital in their community and have been able to raise over $300 million for children since its initiation.
For SOS, all our fundraising goes to supporting pediatric patients at our local McMaster Children’s Hospital! Our events have been a huge success, engaging many community members every year and raising a collective total of over $15,000 for this worthy cause!
